Senior Finance Executive

About the role:

This position will be based in our Malaysia office located in Mid Valley, KL. 

As the Senior Finance Executive, you will be managing financial transactions, ensuring timely collections and maintaining strong financial controls. This is a highly visible role and you'll be working with the brightest and most talented colleagues in the digital creative space in a high growth organisation.

You will be part of a growing team, performing operational accounting functions – GL/AP/AR, daily bank reconciliation, supporting month-end closing activities, GST/WHT/SST reporting, preparing yearly full sets of accounts and participating in annual budgeting activities. Duties include managing the cash flow, ensuring financial controls are followed and enforced. You will report to the Finance Manager, based in Malaysia.


What you will do:

  • Accounts Receivable & Revenue Management:
    • Take full ownership of the  accounts receivable function for the regional office, ensuring accurate and timely invoicing, collections, and reconciliation.
    • Manage and ensure accurate revenue recognition in accordance with accounting standards and company policies, supporting reliable financial reporting.
    • Implement and maintain effective credit control measures to minimize overdue accounts.
  • Accounts Payable Management
    • Overseeing accounts payable processes, including timely and accurate processing of vendor payments, expense tracking, and reconciliation
    • Collaborate with internal teams to resolve discrepancies and ensure alignment with internal controls and company policies of processing invoices and expenses.
  • Financial Reporting
    • Contribute to the preparation of financial reports, including monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
    • Ensure compliance with accounting standards and company policies.
  • Mentorship and Training
    • Mentor and guide a Finance Associate, providing support and training to enhance their skills and knowledge.
    • Collaborate with the finance team to foster a culture of continuous improvement and Excellence.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration
    • Collaborate with other departments to address financial queries and provide relevant financial information.
    • Work closely with country finance teams in Malaysia and Singapore to ensure consistency and alignment.
  • Process Optimization
    • Identify opportunities to streamline and improve accounts receivable and payable processes.
    • Implement best practices to enhance overall financial efficiency.

The successful candidate should have:

  • Minimum 5-7 years of relevant accounting experience working in a startup/tech/digital media industry
  • Degree in Accountancy/Business/Finance or any other professional accounting qualification is strongly desirable.
  • Extensive experience in financial reporting standards, revenue recognition, managing budgets, and media campaigns
  • An energetic self-starter who is able to work both independently and within a team
  • Able to work under tight deadlines with fast turnaround times.
  • Takes initiative and has excellent communication skills to engage with people from all levels and cross-department including peers, vendors, suppliers, clients and senior leaders
  • Comfortable working in a startup culture: Demonstrates flexibility and is quick to adapt to changes
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, organised and attention to detail 
  • Bonus: Accounting software (XERO) and superior Excel/Google Sheets proficiency.
