We are looking for a creative and digitally savvy Social Media Journalist (News & Social Media) to produce engaging, news-focused short-form videos and written content across TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, and YouTube. The ideal candidate is passionate about current affairs, understands social media trends, and knows how to craft stories that spark conversations and connect with online communities.
What you will do:
Content Creation:
- Produce social-first news content across TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, and YouTube, including short news recaps, stitched videos, explainers, fact-checks, and commentary.
- Research trending topics and conduct fact-checking to ensure accuracy and credibility.
- Frame compelling angles for news stories, scripting and creating a narrative flow that resonates with audiences.
- Write engaging captions, headlines, and hooks optimized for different platforms.
Social Media Strategy:
- Stay updated on social media trends and viral content formats to ensure content remains relevant and competitive.
- Transform editorial articles into concise, engaging video content tailored to each platform’s best practices.
- Monitor video performance metrics to refine content strategy and improve engagement.
Community Engagement:
- Respond to comments and messages to build and maintain a strong connection with the audience.
Collaboration:
- Work closely with the editorial team to align content with MS News' editorial tone and mission.
- Coordinate with designers or video editors for any ad hoc content enhancement, if necessary.
The successful candidate should have:
- Diploma/Degree in Mass Communications, Journalism, Media Studies, or related field preferred.
- Prior experience in content creation, social media management, or digital journalism is an advantage.
- Familiar with social media platforms, their audiences, and content trends (TikTok, Instagram Reels, YouTube Shorts, Facebook).
- Proficiency in video editing and design software (Capcut, Canva, or equivalent)
- Ability to research and analyse news and factual information, with strong skills in fact-checking and distilling insights into clear, audience-friendly stories.
- Comfortable crafting concise, impactful narratives that bring news and facts to life in social-first video formats.
- Keen sense of storytelling, pacing, and visual composition with interest in current affairs, news, and social issues.
- Creative thinker with a strong sense of what resonates with digital audiences.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills to manage multiple projects under tight deadlines.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with creative teams.
- A portfolio/reel showcasing editing skills and social-first video content is required.
