PHP Developer (WordPress)

About the role:

This position will be based in our Malaysia office located in Mid Valley, KL. 

We are looking for a WordPress Web Developer to develop, maintain, and improve our WordPress websites, microsites, themes, and plugins. You will be responsible for building responsive and user-friendly web experiences, customizing existing WordPress functionality, troubleshooting technical issues, and ensuring our websites are secure, scalable, and optimized for performance.

The role will work closely with designers, developers, content, and marketing teams to support ongoing website updates, campaign pages, technical improvements, integrations, and day-to-day web operations. The ideal candidate should be comfortable working across both front-end and back-end WordPress development, with a strong eye for quality, performance, SEO, and maintainability.


What you will do:

  • Develop and maintain custom WordPress themes and plugins.
  • Customize existing plugins and themes to meet specific business requirements.
  • Build responsive, mobile-friendly, and cross-browser compatible websites.
  • Debug, troubleshoot, and resolve front-end and back-end issues.
  • Ensure site performance, security, and scalability.
  • Optimize website speed, Core Web Vitals, caching, and image delivery.
  • Perform regular WordPress core, plugin, and theme updates.
  • Monitor and resolve plugin conflicts, compatibility issues, and deprecated code.
  • Implement and maintain website security best practices, including malware prevention, access controls, and vulnerability patching.
  • Assist with website migrations, backups, staging deployments, and production releases.
  • Work with hosting environments, DNS, SSL, CDN, and server-level configurations where required.
  • Collaborate with designers and other developers to deliver seamless user experiences.
  • Maintain and improve existing company websites, microsites, landing pages, and campaign pages.
  • Integrate third-party tools, APIs, forms, analytics, tracking pixels, and marketing platforms.
  • Familiarity with headless WordPress, WordPress REST API, or GraphQL.
  • Understand SEO, structured data, schema markup, and accessibility best practices.
  • Support technical SEO requirements such as redirects, meta tags, sitemap issues, and indexability checks.
  • Maintain documentation of code, configurations, deployment steps, and processes.
  • Conduct testing across devices and browsers before launch.
  • Assist with bug fixes, QA testing, and post-launch support.
  • Recommend improvements to website architecture, performance, maintainability, and user experience.
  • Work closely with content, editorial, commercial, and marketing teams to support website requirements.
  • Develop automation scripts or internal tools where useful to simplify day-to-day website operations.
  • Keep up to date with WordPress, PHP, JavaScript, and web development best practices.
  • Provide assistance to HQ office if required.
  • Undertake any other ad-hoc assignments as required.

The successful candidate should have:

  • 2–3 years of proven experience in WordPress and PHP development.
  • Strong understanding of WordPress core, themes, and plugin architecture.
  • Proficiency in PHP, HTML, CSS, Java-Script, and MySQL.
  • Experience with plugin customization and third-party integrations.
  • Familiarity with debugging tools and performance tuning techniques.
  • Experience with version control systems (e.g., Git).
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and deliver high-quality code on schedule.
  • Good problem-solving and communication skills.
